Have you been hit by the issue of a parking penalty that you perceive to be unfair? If so – appeal – it has been reported that more than a third of penalties are withdrawn by operators as soon as an appeal is made. the law states that a ten-minute grace period is meant to be given before a ticket is issued. A high proportion of motorists are likely to pay up without querying a ticket.
Appeals are made in the first instance to the parking operator involved, and then to POPLA (Parking on Private Land Appeals). According to figures published by POPLA about 37% of appeals made to them are not contested by the parking operator, and about 14% are decided in favour of the motorist. Thus, more than half of cases are ‘won’ by drivers.
